Our
Story,,

My name is Ivy Rodriguez, and I am the proud founder of Velyndetti, a sustainable workwear brand. I am an Idahoan by birth, a Mexican-American, and a passionate advocate for quality craftsmanship and environmentalism. My life has been shaped by a rich tapestry of family, struggle, and discovery, all of which has contributed to the vision and values of Velyndetti.

I grew up with two brothers whom I love dearly and a sister I only had the chance to grow up with for a short time. My childhood was marked by the instability of my parents’ tumultuous relationship, but also by the tough love and inspiration I received from my grandfather. Despite the challenges, my family’s closeness and support helped me persevere.

In my early years, I was a self-proclaimed “troublemaker,” often neglecting my education. By middle school, I found myself placed in “ramp-up” classes, designed for students needing extra support. Initially, I saw these classes as a mark of failure. However, this experience became a turning point. I began to apply myself, fell in love with learning, and transitioned from special classes to high honors. My passion for mathematics and poetry emerged during this time – math taught me problem-solving, while poetry revealed the beauty of life and the power of creative expression.

Fashion was always part of my identity. Even as a child, I’d spend more time getting ready than my mom, ensuring I had the perfect haircut, fresh clothes, and clean kicks. Dressing well made me feel good, and it planted the seed for what would later become my career.

My teenage years were filled with aspirations – from becoming a magician like Criss Angel to dreaming of joining Faze Clan as a professional gamer. My parents supported every endeavor, whether it was buying me a magic kit, a skateboard setup, or music production equipment. Despite their unwavering encouragement, I often gave up during the learning curve, moving on to the next big idea.

Everything changed in my senior year of high school when I discovered Virgil Abloh. Virgil’s work opened my eyes to the limitless possibilities of creativity and showed me that potential knows no boundaries. Inspired, I decided to start my own “T-shirt brand” in 2019. I taught myself Adobe Illustrator, designed mock-ups, and named the brand “Lovely.” Working at an established retail store during this time exposed me to the highly saturated market of poorly made garments, fueling my desire to create better clothing.

Over time, my ambitions grew beyond T-shirts. I wanted to design high-quality, durable clothing– to become a tailor and build a true fashion brand. I bought a sewing machine, taught myself how to sew via YouTube, and immersed myself in books on garment construction. Through trial and error, I created three different brand concepts: Lovely, LL, and Violet Garden Ideation.

In 2020, I officially launched Violet Garden Ideation. My first product was a crossbody bag called “Diemon Crytsll.” After selling out of my initial batch of seven bags in one day, I felt on top of the world. Unfortunately, poor financial management led to the business’s downfall. Determined to continue, I took a job at McDonald’s to fund my next collection, which consisted of vests. However, this collection didn’t sell well, forcing me to reevaluate my approach.

The turning point in my journey came when I entered the construction industry. As a concrete laborer,  later a commercial framer turned commercial journeyman roofer,  I experienced the grueling yet rewarding nature of blue-collar work. These roles deepened my appreciation for the hardworking individuals who build our world.  I realized how vital durable, functional clothing is for those who work in extreme conditions. This insight solidified my vision for creating sustainable workwear that serves the needs of these men and women.

In 2023 and half of 2024, I balanced full-time blue-collar work with online classes at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. Juggling 10-hour workdays and academic deadlines strengthened my time management skills and reinforced my commitment to fashion. My designs became increasingly inspired by workwear, and I resolved to create garments that combined sustainability, durability, and style.

Now, as a junior in college, I’m focused on bringing my brand, Velyndetti, to life. I moved to Denver, Colorado in 2024 to pursue my dream. The city represents a fresh start and the next chapter in my journey. My goal is to develop Velyndetti into a leading sustainable workwear brand that embodies the values of resilience, quality, and eco-consciousness.

Velyndetti is more than a brand; it’s a testament to the power of perseverance and the belief that hard work can turn dreams into reality. I’m committed to creating clothing tailored to hardworking environmentalist while promoting a sustainable future for all.
